What kinds of groups can host a retreat at Sugar Creek?

Sugar Creek is a year-round retreat and conference center, not just a summer camp. We host overnight events nearly every weekend of the year on our 660 acres in the Driftless region of southwestern Wisconsin.
Groups we regularly host

  • Youth groups — weekend retreats built around your own programming, with our staff running activities
  • Confirmation classes — pastors and youth workers bring their confirmands and get 1½ hours of dedicated instruction time each day, with canoeing, horseback riding, swimming, and camp activities filling the rest
  • Families — family retreats and reunions, from a single household to a multi-generation gathering
  • Adults — women's retreats, craft and quilting weekends, "Yesterdays Youth" gatherings, and custom retreats built for renewal and rest
  • Churches and congregations — team get-togethers, service projects, leadership events
  • Schools — class trips and environmental education
  • Businesses and organizations — meetings, trainings, and team-building in the woods
  • Weddings and celebrations — ceremonies, receptions, and family reunions
  • College groups — leadership retreats and service weekends

Group sizes
We serve groups from 12 to 300 people. Small enough for a single confirmation class, large enough for a full congregation.

You don't have to be Lutheran. Sugar Creek is an ELCA camp owned by 125 Midwest congregations, and we welcome groups of all beliefs and backgrounds. Retreat groups set their own agenda — faith programming is available if you want it and entirely optional if you don't.
