What activities can our group add to a retreat?
Our staff runs activities for retreat and rental groups year-round. You pick what fits your schedule and your people.
Horses
Horses have been part of Sugar Creek since 1966, when the program started in a tobacco barn. A dedicated stable was built in 2010, and the herd is now one of the things groups come back for.
Outdoor recreation
The property is the main attraction: 660 acres of forest, trout streams, ponds, and prairie, plus ten miles of private trails for hiking. Canoeing and swimming are available in season, along with adventure programming and campfire spaces.
Environmental education
School groups can build a trip around the Driftless landscape — one of the few areas in the Upper Midwest untouched by the last glaciation.
Service projects
Groups looking to give back can work with us on trail and facility projects during their stay.

- Trail rides — $55 per rider, about 1.5 hours. Maximum 6 riders per ride, minimum charge of $150 per ride, and up to 5 rides per day.
- Wagon rides — scenic rides through the valley, great for mixed-age and multi-generation groups
- Pony rides — for younger children
